It all happened within the span of several seconds, so I didn't get a very good look at it.
We were downtown, on our way to the hotel.
It came out of the snow in front of us, he threw me behind him, and it ate him.
He was gone by the time I got my bearings in the snow.

[It hurts. Amber wish it didn't hurt. She wishes that his words didn't get to her as much as they do. She finds herself, again, trying to convince herself that she doesn't care. This is happening too often. How does he always know the most perfect, awful thing to say to get under a person's skin?]

[She wants to add that she doesn't need him, anyway. That she'd rather be alone. That he wasn't starting to get to her with all his talk of the future and the time they were going to spend together, and how nice it had sounded and that she was starting to be able to actually imagine it. That she could see herself being with him for real.

It would just be a lie. And House doesn't need the fodder to torment her.]
